Can't make a pig nose? Does that mean you've had nose surgery?

0:53

Why is it hard to make a “pig nose” after nose surgery? 👀 With the old L-shaped silicone implants, there was naturally almost no movement at all. But most nose surgeries today also involve lifting the tip, so the tip often ends up moving less⚠️ A plastic surgeon explains why you can't make a pig nose📖 ✔ Why the nose tip becomes firmer ✔ How surgery with septal or rib cartilage works ✔ When a pig nose is still possible, and when it's difficult We've summed it all up in this video👃

Video transcript

That's half true and half false. Back when L-shaped silicone was used, of course you couldn't make a pig nose. Even today, most people who get nose surgery have a low, bulbous tip, and improving that is really the whole reason they have surgery, right?

To raise a low tip, whether we use septal cartilage or rib cartilage, we build a support post inside the tip, and then with the alar cartilage, the cartilage that forms the nostrils, we have to tie it all together. When you operate that way, strong adhesions form, and the tip inevitably becomes a little firmer and moves less.

So when you push your nose up with a finger, there are cases where the tip doesn't move much. But if your tip was already fairly high and you just wanted to touch up the bridge a little, so the surgery only involved putting silicone in the bridge, or placing a thin layer of donor dermis on the tip, then a pig nose is possible.

But since most surgeries involve lifting the tip somewhat, you could say it's usually hard to make a pig nose.
